Sotheby’s auction of Magnificent Jewels & Noble Jewels that took place in Geneva on April 12th achieved an astounding 149.9 million CHF, the highest ever total for a various owner Jewellery auction.
A further six auction records were broken during the sale, including the Sunrise Ruby, an exceptional and immeasurably rare 25.59cts Burmese stone mounted by Cartier selling for 28,5m CHF and becoming the most expensive gem which is not a diamond.
The Sale was presided by David Bennett, Worldwide Chairman of Sotheby’s Jewellery Division who stands as an authority in the field of precious stones and jewellery and is famous for his numerous record-breaking sales. David Bennett has commented after the sale : “The exceptional results achieved this evening are evidence that the market for exceptional jewels is going from strength to strength. The galleries have been brimming with collectors during our worldwide exhibitions, and this translated into lively bidding throughout the sale tonight with truly global demand for the finest diamonds, gemstones and signed pieces of the very highest order.”
