Sotheby’s Institute of Art has just announced the detail of its annual jewellery course, to be led in London this autumn.
Magnificent Jewels: Transatlantic Glamour in the 20th Century will include inspiring content on the leading designers of Europe and America in the mid-twentieth century such as Bulgari, Marina B, Fulco di Verdura, Jean Schlumberger, Harry Winston and Tiffany.
This short-session course highlights the fascinating histories of these pioneers of glamour and luxury, exploring their styles and techniques, and telling the stories behind some of their most spectacular creations. Attention will also be paid to the private collections of the darlings of the Jet Set – Diana Vreeland, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Babe Paley and others – who did so much to bring these firms international renown.
But one of the most exciting moment of this 2-day course is definitely the handling session of significant pieces from forthcoming Sotheby’s sales. As in this previous session at the Sotheby’s Institute :
The course is led by Daniela Mascetti, Senior Specialist, International Jewellery, Sotheby’s and co-author of Understanding Jewellery – the reference book for all jewellery history lovers.
